When I was in public speaking class in HS in the early 90’s a girl gave a speech about how to use a squeegee.
The exercise was to give a demonstration on how to use an object but the way this girl said the word “squeegee” in a high, shrill voice just cracked me and two of my friends up. It was just the combination of the word, her voice, and the fact that we were 15-16 yrs old but it became our catch phrase.
During Xmas, I was at some store like autozone or Walmart and saw a squeegee in the discount rack for a few dollars so I bought it thinking it was hilarious.
Well my friends parents heard us say “squeegee” as we tried to interject it into every conversation and when they saw that he got one for Xmas from me they went berserk.
They called the school and other parents trying to get to the bottom of squeegee before it became a problem like it probably had in NY, Chicago, and Los Angeles, and we all got called into the office after WEEKS of them trying to figure out what “squeegee” was code for.
If it hadn’t of been for them putting us in separate rooms and us telling the EXACT same story to the principal and then to our individual families, I don’t think they would’ve believed us.
Finally I told my mom that it’s just a funny word and just to say it out loud but in a high shrill voice and then I did it, and she laughed. I think she started laughing at how I said it, but then I swear I saw the moment when she realized that she had actually done a good job and how absurd this entire issue actually was.
