  1. I have used those drives before, wireless power and data. Good for nice clean builds but the bandwidth is really low.

  2. I bet it’s easier to move Thor’s hammer than it is to shift that thing.

  3. All I can think of is:

    1.Heat

    2.Resonance and vibration

    3.Sata splitter cable fire

  4. fwiw, I’ve got 44 drives in a LianLi D8000 tower. 18 noctua fans. whoops 22 if you count the PSU fans and the CPU fans. case is big enough to still have decent airflow. raw is nearly ½ PB in one box. hoarding Linux ISOs, naturally. thank $DEITY for LTO7 and 10GbE. ?

  5. Hey, that’s a case I have. Good old Coolermaster Stacker!

  6. I used to go to LANs at this guy’s house back in Oz. He’d be stoked to see the beast on reddit.

  7. I’m confused – how do they all hook into his motherboard? I don’t see 45 sata or ide ports. I assume I’m missing something?

  8. Nah, never seen 49HDDs in a tower before.

Drove past a burning building yesterday, though, which is how I imagine the end game here.

  9. I doubt it would’ve worked for a long time though.

I currently run 40 HDD’s and 2 SSDs in something twice the size. Although I made my case entirely custom also with mobility and low noise cooling in the back of my mind. Technically I could hammer it in a Stacker, but it needs a lot more modding than he did.
He would need to cool the front and bottom drives better or else it would just overheat.

  10. Like the comment from the original post in 2007 “You going to download the internet?”

  11. That thing alone will sound like a Google server farm.

  12. [I found the thread here](https://forums.overclockers.com.au/threads/coolermaster-stacker-slightly-modified.602130/)

But if you don’t want to have to look threw a decade old thread

    [here’s a gallery I made with the build pics.](https://imgur.com/gallery/NWK74)

Also you can see he’s running two PSU’s 1 1000w and the other I Can’t tell.

This was done in 200~~2~~. 7

    > server as it looks currently with 44 drives, stayed up on the network for 44 hrs straight, 35 TB formatted capacity, running an ftp at the lan >

  13. With the amount of heat those drives will generate it will probably last a few days max

  14. And one stick of ram lol, this had to be a joke right?
