Anybody in the Portland, OR area that would be interested in digitizing this collection? The OP said she would be interested in handing these over to someone up for the task.

  1. Now that would be a labor of love… hope someone does it.

  2. I’m kind of a newbie to all of this stuff and was wondering, how would you even go about digitizing all of this?

  3. I am from the area but unfortunately would not be any help :,(

  4. This is very cool!

I’m a chef, and restaurant owner. The very first chef I worked for on Nantucket Island was at one time the personal chef of Earl MacCausland, the original editor and publisher.

  5. Hi there, I’m the person who posted this over on r/oldrecipes.
If there is someone interested in taking on this project I’d love to hand these over. I’m just a cookbook enthusiast who wanted to save these from a dumpster, because Gourmet is such an iconic part of American food history, and also defunct, and as far as I know these have never been archived. I’m located in Portland, Oregon

  6. Try contact Saisonnier Belgium. Culinary publisher for professionals. They might know people who are interested,

  7. I can help with digitization, but am not in Oregon. Book rate shipping for something like that would still be pretty expensive I would think.

  8. Holy shit… I thought this was a /r/Vinyl post and I about had a heart attack when I saw how curved the records were!!!

  9. I would love to but I am no where close to portland

  10. I’m a magazine collector (who lives in Portland). I wish I had known about that estate sale. I’ve researched what’s involved in scanning magazines. It’s not pretty. I don’t recommend it. You also need to be careful about copyright. I think that title is still in print and might be owned by Conde-Nast. You would get a take-down notice on those.

  11. Imagine digitizing it and then creating an entire cooking recipe website from it that could compete with all modern sites. Except if the company is still active and ready to cease and desist or sue.

  12. The Pulp Scans group on [groups.io](https://groups.io) is your best bet. They’re responsible for most of the great magazine scans on archive.org.

  13. Is there still that book store on Hawthorne that has all the old magazines (Not Powells)

  14. I actually am in Portland, but I didn’t see where OP wanted help doing that. Might be interesting.
