Another glorious haul from my work! 1TB SSD and 256gb NVMe’s. This marks over 23TB for free from work!

  1. oh man, i need to pay for everything, low prices but still, i started like a year ago and its my first job, so money isn’t that easy.

all the money gets donated, which makes my position to bargain even worse because im just gonna look like an ashole that does not care about sick kids

  2. If you’re getting free storage drives you should consider various cryptocurrencies that will let you generate coins from that storage space.

  3. Those green drives would only be my temp download folder and nothing more. 8 years and most likely not firmware modded.

  4. I’m in the process of replacing all my 4TB’s with 12-14’s. Old 4TB ones get sold on eBay. 1TB’s I just throw away these days since I don’t have unlimited drive bays or shelf space and not worth the effort to sell on eBay (might make $5 in profit, maybe, after spending an hour packing it and walking it to the post office). SSD freebies are probably free due to being nearly out of write endurance and about to die. I wouldn’t trust them myself.

  5. The green drives would just stay at work for me.

  6. Whoa! How so? Share some with the less fortunate in the upcoming holiday season.

    Share the speedy silicon.

  7. I had three old Sandforce OWC SSD’s, I bought them all at the same time and used them in in all sorts of projects. They all died a few months ago, within the same week. It was kinda remarkable that they lasted so long, and all had similar life spans.

  8. How do you manage such a variety of drive sized for your hoarding purposes? How are the disks arranged in your system.? I have a similar collection of drives I’ve accumulated over the past few years.

  9. I remember the WD Green 3.0TBs fondly. I think I ran them 24/7 over 7 years with minimal issues. They do start to throw SMART warnings for exceeding the head parking counter due to the aggressively eco firmware, so just be aware of that.

  10. Where do you work? Would love to score free storage myself.

  11. I wouldn’t trust any of the drives I work with. Sadness.

  12. This is my favorite part of owning a tech company. Although, 90% of the drives we get for free go to customers who can’t afford them (we work with a lot of low income customers). That 10% though, so awesome!

  13. Hi, I’m a co-worker, can I haz some? <3 lol good haul for sure though.

  14. For a second I thought you meant you got 256 NVMe’s, and I was like damn, that’s some proper charity.

  15. check load/unload cycles on the wd green dumpster fires.

use wdidle3 to disable headparking on them, if they have it enabled.

    article going over it:

and damn those 2 ssds sound fun to have to play around with.

i hope you got some nice tlc + dram ones.

  16. I work in a Data Center and I have to cry as customers shred their decommissioned hard drives. Nothing wrong with them, they just won’t risk any data being breached. Makes me almost cry hearing their death throws as they are run through an industrial shredder at least once a year.

  17. Is there a good storage device for multiple NVMe drives? I get some from work too, but only have some single drive external cases.

  18. I could fill all those up in hours and not even blink.

  19. The one thing I can’t take from work are the hard drives. Switches no problem, servers… Need help loading those in your car? Hard drives… That’s a hard no.

  20. That’s awesome, I wish I vould get Storage drives from work.
BTW, is that a keychron mk4 you got there?
