A few weeks ago I picked up over 100 VHS tapes from an older woman in Clearwater Florida spanning from the late 70’s to the mid 2000’s. Some of the local TV spots and commercials are too cool to keep to myself so I’ve started uploading them here is episode 1.

  1. Any Jeopardy episodes? The 80s to the mid 90s still have thousands of missing episodes despite archivists best efforts.

  2. Great find. I’ll definitely scroll through these. Growing up in Tampa then I love the flashbacks

  3. Thank you for being a part of the forgottenfilm/foundfilm datahoarder gang! You should absolutely contact me! Or.. whatever I’ll just message you lol. I archive tossed 35mm slides! I’ve found so many VHS tapes I don’t know what to do with it’s not even funny!

  4. You should post this to /r/obscuremedia, we’d love this kinda stuff over there.

  5. I want to thank everyone for their interest in this project! Many have pointed out the audio delay in the video however I’m not sure how to fix it. I’ve posted the details of the problem over at /r/mkvtoolnix where I’ve also linked to the DVD iso file. I’m hoping to get this problem fixed for the future videos.

  6. Dunno if it’s a result of YouTube, but there is significant audio drift in this. Audio is off by several seconds toward the send.

  7. Very cool! May I suggest you upload the unedited tape to the internet archive?

  8. I have about two black bags filled with old VHS tapes in them, maybe even more that consist of old movies and programs recorded from the 80s/90s. Is that something this sub would be interested in? Where would I even start?

  9. Don’t forget to upload them to archive.org on the way!

  10. Upload it to [archive.org](https://archive.org) Youtube might just decide to remove the videos or lock your account one day without a reason and then all of the footage is gone.

  11. The cinemax animation jingle at the start was very good!

  12. Also feature on r/promote_your_channel

  13. As a native Central Floridian, I love this. Thanks for sharing!

  14. That salad-in-a-pita Burger King ad at around 59 minutes in has me dying laughing lmao, what an odd food concept

  15. Don’t forget to put them on the internet archive!

  16. Man, this is so cool! Thank you for doing this!

    Edit: Oh wow, per Google:

    >How much was a VHS player in 1977?

The VCR would cost $1,280. That’s about $4,600 in inflation-adjusted dollars. Blank tapes were priced at $20 ($72 these days). VHS was late to the game.

  17. Keep these. There are national archive efforts going on with found clusters of video tapes

  18. Cinemax, good memories. Cool archive dude, why it says 82 though? I believe this is from 92?
