  1. This easy share drive. It’s so common. Is it because of the price savings for is it for the specs on the drive ? Or both?

  2. So when a drive goes bad do you put in back in the enclosure and send it to WD? Is there any type of security tampering methods in place that may void the warranty?

  3. man,. bro… tghis is awesome i canntg even type properly… ohhh yeahs.

edit: so you are using this in a Dell DAS?

  4. So wait, this voids your warranty right? Isn’t that a lot of HDs to have no warranty for?

  5. would you mind sharing, what enclosure, os, filesystem, and raid level you plan on using?

thanks! and respect on that rack!

  6. How do you know what model drives are inside beforehand?

  7. Did some rough maths, I’m in the UK and it’s cheaper for me to fly to America and buy just 2 drives than it is simply buying 2 over here, shuckable or not. If I buy ~10 I’ve saved over $1600. It sounds silly going to such effort, but maybe it has to be done…

    Edit: see updated maths below

  8. whats the point of masking out the info on the drives?

  9. I can imagine in a few years. We will be comparing this picture to the new hard drives which will be 900TB and the size of an m&m.

  10. In 10 years we can all look back at this post and laugh. In the meantime good job saving probably $2000, the bare drives are still relatively expensive.

  11. why did OP insist on blacking out the serial numbers, its not like its secret info?

  12. In the market for 2 new drives, please god let these go on sale again! Bought 4 but damn am I bad at shucking.

  13. What does ‘shuck’ mean? I’ve seen it being used a lot in this sub?

  14. Can anyone link me to pictures showing how to shuck easystores? Had trouble prying off the damn thing. Thanks.

  15. Noob question, why these 8TB Red look different from my 2TB Red?

  16. Dammit, you’re beating me by a stack.

I’m still slowly testing mine while in the enclosures with badblocks since I’m in no rush to use them though.
