  1. With so many drives the whole thing would be very heavy

  2. Here’s a question that I didn’t see asked. What’s with the “Aug 11 2006” label. The smallest drive you have is 4TB so it can’t be the date the drive went in service (they didn’t have 4TB drives in 2006).

  3. Thank you. What a great post for this board, and inspiration for us. As opposed to posts of,”..how do I attach my external USB”, “…my Synology this/that”.

  4. Am I right in thinking that the size of the parity disk defines the maximum (useable) capacity of any one data disk? So you can mix and match drives up to and including the size of the parity, but not larger?

  5. What’s the green lock next to the drive names?

  6. Where are the other 5 drives? Got pics of the 5.25″ bay? I have an empty DS6 and just bought a mobo/CPU/RAM/PSU for it. Have 16 8TB Easystores.

Also have 10+ 4TB drives that I wasn’t planning to use because they are way slower :/ mostly Samsung D3 Station

  7. Dumb question: the parity drives don’t contain redundant data but portions that help rebuild or verify data on other drives?

Do you use them with or instead of redundant drives?

  8. Probably a dunb question but what does the wiring at the hard drives look like? I only have 3 drives in a fractal r6 case and i can never wire up more than that because the cables will either bend a ton or there isnt enough space between drives

  9. This must be a dumb question, but how do you manage so many different size drives and still get two drive parity?

What software does this? Is it available in linux?

  10. Could you post a list the hardware used please? I would like to build something similar..

  11. First you should replace those 4TB drives with 8’s at minimum. 12’s ideally 😛

This is gorgeous and I’m hella jealous of what you did. Please tell us you took pictures during your build process of that DIY drive cage.

  12. What’s the case? And what’s the DIY added cage from?

  13. What software is the overview from, unraid i guess?

And any reason you went with a SAS card and a SATA card?
